We tried really hard to get help for the peach kitty, but in the end, nothing could be done.
The X-Rays showed he had a severe fungal infection. While this doesn’t sound as bad as something like, say, cancer, it had invaded his lungs and possibly other organs. He was already too weak for the meds to kill the fungus without causing his body to crash, and he was suffering.
The vet called last night and asked if my human wanted to come over and say goodbye. She said yes, then called back a moment later to ask if I could come along. The vet checked and said yes. So I came with her.
The hospital was quiet and, as often happens, the staff up front made a big deal out of me and petted me. My human let me wander on my leash, since I was the only pet in the lobby. Finally they called us in.
The peach kitty was in an oxygen cage, and my human got me out of my carrier, and held me up so we could see each other. His eyes lit up for just a second and he lifted his head for the first time all weekend.

Then they took us to a private room while they prepared to bring him in. It was very sad but my human was glad she brought me. She wanted me to be there for him. And she wanted me to know where he went.

This is the last photo of us together. I already miss him.
