It was about 12 years ago this weekend that Summer came home, and she tells the story about how it happened.
The end of August marks 12 years since I first came home. Most of you probably already know the story. But if you don’t, here it is.

Somali kitten on the judging table at a cat show
My human met me a month before (right around her birthday), at my very first cat show. She knew my breeder because that’s where she got Sparkle, this blog’s namesake. So they were visiting and my human was very impressed by me. She’d been wanting a kitty she could train to be a therapy cat for many years, and she thought I had potential.

Since my breeder was training me to be a show cat, she had entered me in a lot of shows over the next few weeks. So my human had a lot of opportunities to get to know me better. She even helped take me to the judging rings. Originally I was going to go home with my human sometime in the fall. But Sparkle, whose health was not great, had a crash suddenly, and did not recover. I was showing the next weekend, so my human and my breeder decided I would come home after the show.

I got to stay overnight in a hotel with my human for the first time!

The next day, she bundled me up, we finished the cat show (it was a two-day show), and I came home.

And I’ve been here ever since! It’s been a pretty eventful 12 years.
