Sometimes my human can tell how a therapy cat day at the big hospital is going to go by how crowded the parking lot is. This time it was really easy for her to find a parking space, so she figured it would be pretty quiet, and she was right.
Our first stop here is almost always the Cancer Center, and on the way there, we saw some staff. One of them had seen me last time I was there and remembered me! Okay, I guess a cat in a therapy pet vest on a leash is a little hard to forget.
The infusion chairs at the Cancer Center were empty. They had already finished for the day. The nurse, however, was really happy to see me. And since there were no patients for her to tend to, she got in some quality time with me.
We headed to Labor and Delivery. The assignment page on the website said there was a longterm patient there who wanted visits. Unfortunately, it turned out she was sick so we couldn’t see her.
We did have another patient to see there, a young woman, and her husband was in the room with her. I snuggled down next to her, and for once I faced her right away and my human didn’t have to turn me around. It’s more natural for a cat to face away from the person they’re spending time with but therapy cat patients want to see my face.
We also had a special request to visit the nurses in the maternity ward one level up. That was fun. I just spent some time in the office and people would see me through the door, squee, and come in to pet me.
As you can tell, it wasn’t a busy day but it was nice and relaxed. Everybody commented on how friendly I was. Don’t let anyone tell you cats don’t respond to compliments. We know, and we love them!
