It was a rainy day when Summer stopped by the assisted living residence for her therapy cat visit. But it was still a special visit.

We don’t get rain here very often, but on the morning of my therapy cat visit to the assisted living residences, it was pouring! To be honest, it threw me off to have rain beating on the car roof while my human got me ready for my visit. So if I look grouchy in today’s photo, that’s why.

The whole visit was kind of weird for me. Construction workers were busy in the big room where I usually visit. So the residents were crowded into a small lunchroom. Visiting was awkward. My human didn’t want to set me on the dining tables, and trying to navigate a chair for me around wheelchairs was difficult. I was pretty confused for most of the visit!

But as confused as I was, a very strange thing was going on. The disruption in the residents’ schedule kind of woke them up! I mean, some of them were still dozing in their chairs. But a lot of my regulars who had been fading were more present.

The lady who loves my high fives was wearing a Cat in the Hat hat. While I was giving her my paw, she chatted with my human. She said she had gone up north to see her mother, who wasn’t doing very well. (Yes, sometimes the elderly parents of these residents are still around.) And one man who has stopped recognizing me and losing interest was really happy to see me even though he still didn’t recognize me.

Several of my regulars were especially lively. Plus I met a couple of residents I hadn’t seen before. And the nonverbal woman who pets me with heavy hands was there, so my human made sure I spent time with her. And this time she petted me very gently.

It may not have been one of my better visits…but it was a really good day for my friends there.
